An Illinois man, Jaquon L Timothy, 23, has been charged with aggravated battery with a firearm after allegedly shooting his ex-girlfriend in Peoria in what prosecutors say was an attempt to prove his love for his new girlfriend. The incident occurred in the early hours of July 19, around 1:30 AM in Peoria, when officers responding to a shooting report found the victim suffering from gunshot wounds to both feet.

According to the Peoria County State’s Attorney, Timothy reportedly told his current girlfriend about his plan before carrying out the shooting. Following the attack, he allegedly sent her a text message claiming he had 'carried it out'.

Authorities said a search warrant on Timothy’s phone revealed a text in which he allegedly 'claimed responsibility for the shooting'. He was arrested the following day, the state’s attorney’s office added.
