The favourite candidate in the race for Pennsylvania Democratic US Senate, John Fetterman, surprised many as he announced his recovery from a stroke.

In his statement, Fetterman said that he was admitted to the Penn Medicine Lancaster General Hospital on Friday after suffering from a stroke. However, now, he is well on his way to complete recovery.

The primary elections in Pennsylvania are on Tuesday. According to the polls, Pennsylvania lieutenant governor Fetterman has a considerable lead against his opponents. His opponents include US Republican Conor Lamb and State Republican Malcolm Kenyatta.

Talking about the illness, Fetterman’s spokesperson, Joe Calvello, stated that Fetterman was on his way to a college at Millersville on Friday when his wife, Gisele, urged him to get himself checked at a hospital.

Fetterman confirmed this, stating that he didn’t want to go but went on his wife’s insistence, and she was proved right. He added that he suffered a stroke because a clot from his heart was in the A-fib rhythm for a long time. However, he is now feeling much better. His doctors have also stated that there were no cognitive damages.

Fetterman reiterated that the campaign has been unaffected despite his illness. It has not slowed down, and his party is still on track to win primary on Tuesday and flip the Senate’s seat in November.

Fetterman’s campaign, on the other hand, did not disclose his hospitalisation. Moreover, when asked whether Fetterman’s illness was related to COVID, the campaign didn’t respond. It continued its silence even when Fetterman was missing from the events over the weekend.

Fetterman’s opponents, however, showed solidarity on the news of his health. Lamb said that he and his wife, Hayley, are keeping Fetterman and his family in their prayers and wishing for his complete and quick recovery. On the other hand, Kenyatta stated that his prayers were with Fetterman and his family. He also added that he looks forward to seeing Fetterman back on the campaign trail shortly.

Fetterman was elected as the Pennsylvania lieutenant governor in 2018. He advocates legal cannabis and reduced prison sentences. He first rose to the limelight as the mayor of Braddock, a town in western Pennsylvania that hollowed out when the steel industry collapsed.
