Penn Badgley, the actor who played the role of serial killer Joe Goldberg in hit Netflix thriller You, recently shared his feelings on bidding adieu to the character. The fifth and final instalment of the series was released on Netflix on Thursday (April 24). Badgley also spoke about the physical and emotional toll that the part of a psychopath brings along for an actor. He also revealed why he is unlikely to play a psychotic killer in the foreseeable future.

In an interview with The Independent, Badgley reflected on what he would miss about playing Joe. He said he would surely miss the "athleticism" of the character, explaining that the killer is a "highly physical character to play". Further expressing his opinion about the lead character, Badgley said that Joe "often" is in a raging mood or trying to conceal the truth whenever he is shown "talking a lot".

Joe Goldberg's role a rewarding one, says Penn Badgley

He also asserted that the role is quite rewarding for an actor due to all the physical efforts tied to it. Asked about the ability that allows Joe to appear as a "nice guy", Badgley said that his character is an “embodiment of all of our misconceptions” about emotions such as love, unlike an actual serial killer.

You Season 5 draws the curtain on Joe's sadistic journey. The latest season shows him back in New York, where it all began. The psychopath is now married to Kate Lockwood. The latest season has piqued the interest of viewers as they wonder what destiny holds for Joe in the series. The fifth season shows him entering into an extramarital affair with a writer named Bronte.

The final instalment in the series also has a twist that is hidden from Joe -- his wife's alliance with his survivors. Kate has joined forces with Marienne and Nadia to bring his murderous spree to a decisive end. However, the biggest twist in the storyline for Joe is that Bronte was associated with Guinevere Beck, the woman who ended up as his first victim in Season 1.
