After being released from detention, the man suspected of breaking into Nancy Pelosi's home and hitting her husband with a hammer might be deported from the country, the Department of Homeland Security warned on Thursday.
In order for the immigration officials to be able to take possession of 42-year-old Canadian national David DePape, the detainer asked that the San Francisco County Jail alert ICE before the accused completes his sentence.
ICE puts immigration detainers on arrested individuals, who it believes can be deported under the Immigration and Nationality Act.
According to records, DePape entered the country in 2008 as a B-2 temporary visitor through the San Ysidro port of entry on the southern border.
DePape entered a not guilty plea to a number of crimes, including attempted murder, at his initial court appearance on Tuesday. According to his public lawyer, he is presently being held without bond, and his next hearing is scheduled for this Friday.
