Veteran actress Patricia Crowley passed away at the age of 91 on September 14 in Los Angeles. Her son, Jon Hookstratten, who is Sony Pictures Entertainment's executive VP of administration and operations, announced her death. She died of natural causes.

Crowley was married to Andy Friendly, an Emmy-nominated producer and director. Before him, she was married to Ed Hookstratten, a sports and entertainment lawyer and agent. Patricia Crowley was born in Olyphant, Pennsylvania, her father was a coal miner. She moved to New York City for her high school with her older sister, Ann Crowley, who then became a Broadway musical theatre actress, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Patricia Crowley’s family and first marriage

Crowley married her first husband, Ed Hookstratten, in 1958, according to IMDb. Ed Hookstratten represented famous clients like Elvis Presley, Tom Brokaw, Johnny Carson, Vin Scully, and football coach George Allen, as per The New York Times.


Hookstratten started in the entertainment world after resolving a traffic ticket for singer Peggy Lee, according to the Television Academy. Patricia and Ed Hookstratten had two children: a son, Jon, and a daughter, Ann. Ed Hookstratten passed away in 2014.

Their son Jon Hookstratten worked first at his father’s law firm and then became executive VP at NBCUniversal, later working at Fox Broadcasting Company and Fox Networks Group, and now runs Sony Pictures Entertainment operations, as stated in the report by PRIMETIMER.

Crowley second marriage and charity work

Patricia Crowley married her second husband, Andy Friendly, in 1986. Andy Friendly worked as a producer for Entertainment Tonight and got an Emmy nomination in 1982 for Outstanding Informational Series, according to the Television Academy. Andy Friendly is the son of producer Fred Friendly and produced the first late-late show on TV, "Tomorrow with Tom Snyder", as per Television Academy.

Friendly once said being the son of a powerful producer had a downside, because people assumed he only got work because of his dad, so he had to work harder than others. Andy Friendly graduated from the University of Southern California (USC) and, along with Patricia Crowley, donated to USC’s School of Cinematic Arts, as mentioned in the report by PRIMETIMER.

The couple created the Pat Crowley and Andy Friendly Endowed Fund for Student Support, with an additional $50,000 donation, to help students finish their education, according to the USC website. Andy said their donation was a way to give back to the school that helped him and support students directly. Crowley’s family also includes five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
