The race for Oscars 2023 has begun as countries have started to send their entries for the prestigious Best International Feature Film category. The Philippines Film Development Council has forwarded Erik Matti’s "On the Job-The Missing 8" as the representative film for the Oscars. This film earned the best actor award for John Arcilla at the Venice Film Festival.

Portugal zeroed in on "Alma Viva" by Cristele Alves Meira, a Portuguese-French filmmaker, which already premiered in Cannes.

Morocco has sent "The Blue Caftan" as the film had already won the Fipresci prize in Cannes. The film is by Maryam Touzani. The film stars Lubna Azabal and Saleh Bakri.
