"Everything Everywhere All at Once," a massive hit at the box office, won the award for Best Feature Film at the 95th Academy Awards on Sunday. The film had several wins throughout the night, and it was already a favorite prior to the event.
The Best Picture category was highly competitive, and the unusual science fiction movie, Everything Everywhere All at Once triumphed over the biographical film "Elvis," the psychological drama "Tar," the action sequel "Top Gun: Maverick," and Germany's "All Quiet on the Western Front," which still received four awards earlier in the evening. Michelle Yeoh, the lead actress, and star of the winning movie, expressed her gratitude to the Academy and acknowledged that it was a historic moment. When producer Jonathan Wang went on stage, he expressed his gratitude to A24, acknowledging their support for their unconventional movie for an entire year in theatres. Wang also took the time to thank his father, who passed away at a young age like many immigrant parents. Wang stated that his father was proud of him, not just because of the award, but because the movie was made based on his teachings. He recalled that he was taught that no individual is more valuable than profits and that everyone is equally important.
