Davidson’s departure comes in the wake of Oracle’s recent layoffs and broader internal restructuring, as per a Bloomberg report. Her move to step down was shocking to many in the security community as she was in the firm for about 40 years was also prominenent in the industry as an advocate for the security of Oracle’s products, according to the report. Davidson had joined Oracle in 1988 after serving as a civil engineer in the US Navy, as per the Bloomberg report.While Oracle did not publicly announce her exit from the firm, but in a June filing, the company had said that day-to-day cybersecurity operations were overseen by Senior Vice President Robert Duhart, who previously was chief information security officer of Walmart Inc, as reported by Bloomberg.

Larry Ellison’s Trusted Security Advisor
Davidson was for a long time Oracle co-founder Larry Ellison’s right-hand person on security, and during a 2002 interview with Businessweek, she described the challenges of making sure the firm’s products lived up to a marketing campaign envisioned by Ellison that touted the company’s products as “unbreakable,” according to the report.She explained at that time, saying, “‘Unbreakable’ gives us something to live up to,” adding, “It really does concentrate the mind wonderfully. The general thought is don’t embarrass the company. Nobody wants to be the group that makes us violate it,” as quoted in the Bloomberg report.
The former Chief Security Officer was also a forceful advocate for the security of Oracle’s products as she oversaw the development of industry-leading systems and processes for testing the company’s code for vulnerabilities and protecting the products from hackers, as per the report.
