Famous mega-polluter McDonald's declared on Tuesday that it will be doing away with its confusing McFlurry spoons in favor of a more environmentally friendly design.

In an attempt to lessen the excessive single-use plastic of its massive spindles, which bore an uncanny resemblance to straws, the fast-food business will start serving its soft-serve ice cream delights only with a smaller black spoon.

Before being served to customers, the original McFlurry spoon's hollow handle was attached to McDonald's ice cream makers to mix the delicacy. All burger restaurants in the country will use reusable spindles that can be cleaned and replaced by the end of October.

This minor adjustment will provide customers with the same delectable McFlurry they have come to expect while also assisting in the reduction of single-use plastic waste in restaurants, according to McDonald's.

McDonald's emitted more than 57 million tons of carbon emissions in 2021—more than the whole nation of Norway.

Since then, the restaurant chain has switched some of its plastic Happy Meal toys for self-assemble 3D paper products and started using recycled packaging for some of its goods.
