One dead, several stranded after record rainfall, flash floods hit St. Louis
Torrential downpours and the subsequent flash flooding in St. Louis and the surrounding areas has caused huge damage

St. Louis received 7.68 inches of rain in about six hours. In the northwest of the city, some areas had received over a foot of rain.
By the afternoon, St. Louis had received more than 9 inches of rain. It was the highest-ever rainfall received in the city in a day. The rainfall was more than the previous record of 7 inches, which was set in August 2015, due to the hurricane that traversed this area as it came ashore in Galveston, Texas.
According to St. Louis Fire Chief Dennis Jenkerson, his team made up to 70 rescues on Tuesday. The fire department had rescued six people and six dogs using an inflated boat amid flooding. They were rescued by fire department personnel from different houses in the western part of the city.
At around 10 am, they pulled out the body of a person from a car that had been under about eight and a half feet of flood water. Jenkerson also added that this incident is under investigation, and because of this, he did not divulge any further information.
Jenkerson also mentioned that some building roofs had partially collapsed due to the weight of the water. There has been significant property damage in the area.
The flood waters began to recede on Tuesday afternoon. There are many videos on social media that showed many low-lying areas and roads are entirely inaccessible due to the rain.
Emergency officials in St. Louis County advised the locals not to travel. They also mentioned that they had put up a shelter for those, who had been displaced. They also mentioned that the downpour had impacted the country's central part the most.
