Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad fled the country and ended up in Russia, but there are certain sequence of incidents that happened one after another, leading to this poor geopolitical situation. Syria is currently one of the most dangerous places in the Middle East, and the United States and Russia are also a part of this now-international issue.

Who planned Bashar Al-Assad's escape to Moscow?

According to reports, Al-Assad's escape to Russia was planned by Moscow's top intelligence agents at a time when things were looking very bad for the Syrian President. People in the Russian government had warned Al-Assad about the major chances of losing the war with the rebel forces, and therefore, necessary arrangements were made for his safe travel to Russia. In fact, things were done so secretly, that Al-Assad did not even consult or speak to his closest advisers and family members before leaving the country and moving to Moscow, as there were apparent chances of him getting betrayed.

How did Al-Assad flee Damascus?

The threat to Al-Assad's life was at its peak when the insurgents began taking over strategic locations across the country, and it was quite possible that he could be killed during these onslaughts. Therefore, he fled Damascus on a private jet, whose transponders were shut off right after take-off, and it flew to Russia’s Khmeimim airbase, which is adjacent to the Syrian coastline. Al-Assad may have moved ahead from there in a Russian military jet, and after landing in Moscow, Vladimir Putin promised him safety in exile.
