Olympics 2024 schedule for football: When is Gold medal final match between France and Spain?

Paris Olympics 2024 host France will play Spain for the football Gold medal match at the Parc des Princes on Friday, August 9. Morocco will face North African rivals Egypt at Nantes for the soccer bronze medal match on Thursday, August 8.

Jean-Philippe Mateta scored twice as hosts France came from behind to beat Egypt 3-1 after extra time on Monday and set up an Olympic men's football final showdown with Spain, who edged Morocco 2-1.

France are aiming to win gold for the second time, 40 years after their triumph in Los Angeles in 1984. Spain, which won gold at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics, lost to Brazil in the final at the Tokyo Games three years ago.


Thierry Henry's France looked to be heading for defeat in their semi-final in Lyon after Mahmoud Saber put Egypt ahead against the run of play just after the hour mark.

But Crystal Palace striker Mateta levelled late on to force extra time, in which he headed France in front after Egypt's Omar Fayed was sent off. Michael Olise then sealed the win on 108 minutes.

Juanlu Sanchez came off the bench to fire Spain to second straight, record-equaling fifth Olympic men's soccer final. Sanchez struck in the 85th minute at Stade de Marseille to seal a 2-1 win over Morocco and set up a final against France at the Paris Games.

Spain will get the chance to make up for that and add to what has already been a successful year after the men's senior team won the European Championship last month.
