Cindy Ngamba, who is a boxer hailing from the African country of Cameroon, left the country at the age of just 11 with her family, and went to the UK, where she was granted an asylum status. Meanwhile, she has no country to properly call a home but her skills in boxing is already taking her place and winning hearts, be it the 2023 European Games, or the ongoing 2024 Paris Olympics, where she is a part of the Refugee Olympic Team.

Where is boxer Cindy Ngamba currently based?

Cindy and her family settled in the UK region of Bolton, after fleeing Cameroon, where they had a constant fear for their lives, according to reports. In UK, they were granted the asylum status years later and the boxer and her family had to go through a lot in order for her to qualify and participate as an axe boxer, who is currently in peak form at the Paris Olympics.

This year, the concept of a Refugee Olympic Team is in place, which allows people who do not have a home nation, to still participate in the Paris Olympics, just like any other participant would. This has helped Cindy to get a berth at the Olympics, which she is putting to great use, with her performance. She still trains with Team Great Britain and uses their facilities, even wanting to participate for the nation at the Olympics, but could not do so following passport regulations, as she was not able to procure a British passport in time and had to be content with playing for the Refugee Olympic Team instead.

Boxer pledges never to set foot in origin country

Meanwhile, the boxer is in constant fears that she could be jailed or even killed if she or her family members ever set foot inside Cameroon's territory. Apparently, the primary issue around Cameroon's persecution of Cindy and her family is sexual identity, as there are various orthodox rules around the same in the country, which could lead to harm for the boxer.
