Olena Zelenska: Here's what we know about Ukraine's First Lady and the wife of President Volodymyr Zelensky

Besides being Ukraine's first lady, Olena Zelenska is a screenwriter and secured the 30th spot by the Focus magazine in the list of the 100 most influential Ukrainians.

The wife of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, Olena Zelenska, has been in the news since a weekend visit with Jill Biden, the first lady of the United States. Both met recently on Mother's Day at Uzhhorod, Ukraine. This is the first appearance of Ukraine's first lady after Russia's invasion of Ukraine. She last appeared in public on February 24.

How Olena Zelenska and Volodymyr Zelensky came together?

The two grew up in the city called Kryvyi Rih situated in the southern part of Ukraine. According to Washington Post, both never met each other until college. Zelenska took up architecture; however, the two found comedy as their area of passion and profession. Zelenska joined Zelensky's production company Studio Kvartal 95, as a comedy writer. Both married in 2003 and are parents to Sasha (17) and Cyril (9).

What Zelenska felt when she heard her husband was running for the presidential post?
Ukraine's first lady found herself shocked when she learned about Volodymyr Zelensky running for the President. Out of surprise, when she asked her husband why didn't he tell her about it? Zelensky said he forgot. However, the to be first lady Zelenska didn't find it too exciting when she realized her husband's future political plans. She was concerned about the impending difficulties they had to face. Olena Zelenska supported Ukrainian Paralympic athletes and causes such as nutrition and safe environs in schools, and prevention of domestic violence.

In her interview with a leading magazine, she said that there was a sense of confusion and worry for the children. Gathering essentials and documents was their priority. She has witnessed a great sense of patriotism among her children and other children in the country, she recalls.
