Oakland Athletics pitcher Trevor May calls for owner's resignation as he announces retirement
Trevor May, pitcher for the Oakland Athletics, has retired from baseball and criticized team owner John Fisher as the organization prepares to relocate to Las Vegas. May called on Fisher to sell the team and criticized his handling of the situatio...

Fisher has faced growing criticism from fans in recent years over the team's meager payroll, and tensions escalated when news broke of the intended move eastward. Outraged fans staged protests, demanding that Fisher "sell the team."
May, speaking on a Twitch stream, was candid in his assessment: "Sell the team, dude. I tried to get a ‘Sell’ shirt. It didn’t get here fast enough. Sell it, man. Let someone who actually, like, takes pride in the things they own, own something. There's actually people who give a s--- about the game. Let them do it. Take mommy and daddy's money somewhere else, dork," he commented, alluding to Fisher's parents, who founded Gap.
Criticizing Fisher's handling of the situation, May added, "If you're going to be a greedy f---, own it. There's nothing weaker than being afraid of cameras... Do what you're going to do, bro. Whatever, you're a billionaire, they exist, you guys have all this power -- you shouldn't have any because you haven't earned any of it, but anyway, whatever."
In response to allegations, Fisher told the Las Vegas Journal-Review in August that he has not entertained the idea of selling the team, claiming significant financial losses. "We'll lose $40 million this year and in previous years, which included COVID when the losses were more significant, but we lost $175 million," he stated.
The Athletics finished the season with a disappointing 50-112 record.
