NYC mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani has a special message for US President: ‘Trump, since I know you're watching, turn the volume up’
Newly elected NYC Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani directly addressed President Donald Trump in his victory speech, vowing to make the city a beacon of hope and fight economic inequality. Mamdani pledged to stand with all New Yorkers, including immigran...

With unmistakable clarity and resolve, Mamdani pledged that New York City, a vibrant city of immigrants, will be a beacon amid what he described as a moment of political darkness.
"If anyone can show a nation betrayed by Donald Trump how to overcome, it’s the city that gave rise to him," Mamdani declared.
He vowed to end what he called "the culture of corruption" that allowed billionaires like Trump to evade fair taxation and exploit tax breaks, and to stand "alongside unions and expand labor protections because we know, just as Donald Trump does, that when working people have ironclad rights, the bosses who seek to extort them become very small indeed.”
Signaling his intent to fight economic inequality head-on. Mamdani sent a powerful warning directly to Trump:
"To get to any of us, you will have to get through all of us," underlining the city's united front against policies and rhetoric he rejects.
Attacking Trump further, Mamdani added “whether you are an immigrant, a member of the trans community, one of the many Black women that Donald Trump has fired from a federal job, a single mom still waiting for the cost of groceries to go down, or anyone else with their back against the wall, your struggle is ours too. And we will build a city hall that stands steadfast alongside Jewish New Yorkers, and does not waver in the fight against the scourge of anti-Semitism. Where the more than 1 million Muslims know that they belong.”
Mamdani cast his triumph as a victory for the city’s often overlooked workers, from Senegalese taxi drivers to Uzbek nurses and Trinidadian line cooks, emphasizing, "This city is your city, and this democracy is yours, too."
Closing with a note of hope and unity, Mamdani declared, "Today, we have spoken in a clear voice; hope is alive," promising that New York would shine as a light guiding the nation forward.
His speech reflected not only his progressive vision but also a challenge to Trump’s divisive legacy, capturing the mood of a city ready to embrace change and lead on a new path.
