NRG Energy Inc. agrees to buy Vivint Smart Home Inc. for $2.8 billion, say reports

US production unit NRG Energy INC plans to diversify from the core electricity business to retail consumers by strategizing and investing in Vivint Smart Home INC, for a whopping 2.8 billion dollars. The unit Vivint Smart Home INC sells much electronic stuff like lights, household devices, smart thermostats, and many more.

According to reports, NRG promised to pay Vivint a share in cash of twelve dollars by Tuesday, representing a closing share price of about 33 per cent the previous day. Another interesting fact is that Vivint was growing at a rate of 32 per cent, and the share price in New York was at its peak at 11.90 dollars. On the contrary, NRG stocks were performing poorly and fell by 10 per cent in 13 months.



This deal has increased the customer base of NRG powerhouse by 7.4 million. In 2021, the Houston-based company paved its path in the retail industry with a purchase of 3.6 billion dollars. Looking at the statistics, NRG is an independent power producer in the USA and has plants that are 18 gigawatts in total. It also has strong roots in the Texas retail sector.

NRG CEO quoted with pride that NRG's strategy to acquire Vivint will be a transformational step for the firm. So, considering the customary closing by 2023, the enterprise will raise to 5.2 billion dollars inclusive of 2.4 billion dollars of debt. Looking at the current status, Vivint will recover the losses faced by NRG and maintain the dividend growth.
