Not only Microsoft, Google and Amazon have also laid off over 60,000 employees; here's what techies should be aware of in the coming months

In 2025, more than 61,220 tech workers will have lost their jobs already. These layoffs have happened across 130 different tech companies. Google, Microsoft, and Amazon are leading this big wave of job cuts. The reason for these layoffs is the ongoing economic uncertainty, companies are trying to cut costs and stay stable. Google has had several rounds of layoffs in 2025. In April 2025, Google cut hundreds of jobs from its Platforms & Devices team which includes Android, Pixel phones, and Chrome browser. Before that, in February 2025, Google also had job cuts and some employees left voluntarily in its cloud operations team. These layoffs follow a big one in January 2023, when Google’s parent company Alphabet fired 12,000 employees which is 6% of its global staff, as per reports.

Amazon recently cut around 100 jobs from its Devices and Services division. This division is behind Alexa, Echo smart speakers, Kindle, and the Zoox self-driving car project. Amazon said the reason was to align better with future product plans and to improve efficiency, as mentioned in the Financial express report.
