North Carolina police deputy shot dead

A North Carolina law enforcement officer has died after he was shot fatally in the line of duty early Friday morning in Wake County, the Wake County Sheriff's Office announced. The incident occurred near Battle Bridge Road and Auburn Knightdale Road intersection at around 1:30 a.m. ET.

The Sheriff's office announced after that the deputy succumbed to the bullet wounds.

Wake County Sheriff's Office stated that it was grieving the death of one of its colleagues after being shot fatally in the line of duty. The office asked the public to pray for the agency.


Photos from the crime scene showed a significant police presence shortly after the shooting.



The cause of the shooting was not known at the time of reporting. The deputy's identity hasn't been revealed to the general public and the media.

According to reports, Friday morning's incident marks the fifth sheriff's deputy shooting in the central North Carolina area in the past 12 days. The incident occurred after another deputy from Sampson County sustained gunshot injuries in the line of duty last weekend. The wounded was identified as Caitlin Emanuel.
