Noah’s Ark Hunters sent a robot inside 515-foot boat shaped mysterious formation, here's what they found

While a lot of people do not believe in Noah’s Ark, but there are a lot of researchers who have been looking for ‘God’s evidence’ since ages and this time, some researchers claim they may have found it. For more than six decades, a boat-shaped formation in eastern Turkey has drawn believers and skeptics to the same remote hillside. Now, Noah’s Ark Hunters say they have taken their closest look yet beneath its surface.

The research team shared video recorded by a small underground robot called Gopher. The group described the clip as the first footage from “inside Noah’s Ark”, according to a report by Newsweek.

Such wording makes a dramatic claim. The video does not prove that the biblical vessel has been found. Laboratory testing has not yet established what lies beneath the site.

Where was the new Noah’s Ark footage recorded?

The investigation is taking place at the Durupınar Formation. The site lies south of Mount Ararat in Turkey’s Ağrı Province.


Its outline was noticed in aerial photographs in 1959. The formation measures around 515 feet from end to end. Its unusual shape has kept the Noah’s Ark theory alive for decades. Genesis says the Ark came to rest on the “mountains of Ararat.” Some searchers believe Durupınar could fit the biblical description.


Noah’s Ark Scans founder Andrew Jones is among them. His group is working with a Turkish research project directed by archaeologist Cenker Atila of Sivas Cumhuriyet University. The team has received permission from Turkish authorities to study the site.

What is the Gopher underground robot?

Gopher is a narrow robotic camera designed to enter spaces too small or unstable for a person.

Researchers created boreholes inside the formation. The robot can then travel through accessible openings while recording high-resolution footage.

Earlier ground-penetrating radar surveys showed unusual features under the surface. The team interpreted some of those signals as possible corridors or chamber-like spaces.

Radar alone cannot identify an ancient ship. Rock fractures and changes in soil can also create unexpected patterns.

What did the Noah’s Ark Hunters find?

Core drilling reached depths of nearly 60 feet, according to Noah’s Ark Scans and Jones said the team recovered layers containing “rich organic material.” He believes the material could represent decayed remains from an upper section of the Ark.

Researchers also reported encountering underground cavities. One reportedly contained mud and water.

Another hole reached a hard layer around 13 to 16 feet below the surface. The material was hard enough to break the drill bit. Jones suggested petrified wood as one possibility.


No sample has yet been confirmed as wood. Organic material can also occur naturally in soil. Independent laboratory results will be needed before either claim can be evaluated.

Why do geologists remain skeptical?

Earlier research reached a very different conclusion as Geologist Lorence Collins and explorer David Fasold studied Durupınar before publishing an analysis in 1996. They argued that the site was a natural geological formation.

Their research described the boat-like outline as an eroded fold in sedimentary rock. Supposed metal fittings were identified as natural mineral concentrations. The researchers also reported finding no fossilized wood or ancient biological carbon connected to the structure.

New drilling may test parts of that explanation. Preliminary field observations cannot overturn it on their own.

What happens next at the Durupınar Formation?

Recovered samples are expected to undergo laboratory analysis. Tests will examine their organic content and mineral composition.

Further fieldwork is planned for 2027. A detailed scientific report is also expected. For now, Gopher has opened a small window beneath the formation. The bigger mystery remains firmly in place.
