Noah Thompson is American Idol 2022. He has become the fourth country boy singer on the show to win it. Country girl singer HunterGirl was the runner-up.

Thompson's victory has not come as a surprise for many. Going by the trends on American Idol, the country boy singers have always been a favourite to win the show. Thompson has become the fourth male American Idol winner who is a country singer. The other three male winners are Trent Harmon, who won Season 15, Laine Hardy, who was crowned No 1 for Season 17, and Chayce Beckham, who clinched Season 19's top position.
HunterGirl is also a country singer, and she was one of the favourites to win the show. The 23-year-old female country singer had won the judges' hearts throughout the season. American Idol 2022 Judge Luke Bryan had even anticipated that the show could get a girl country singer as a winner this season. Besides Luke, the other two judges - Katy Perry and Lionel Richie - were also immensely impressed by HunterGirl. Interestingly, in American Idol's history, only one female country singer has been able to win the show: Country girl Carrie Underwood had won the 4th season of the show.
The third position in American Idol 2022 was taken by 20-year-old Leah Marlene.
Thompson started the American Idol 2022 journey on a high note after delivering an impressive performance in his first audition. He sang Kameron Marlowe's "Giving You Up" in his audition. The judges were highly impressed by the fact that Thompson followed his dream despite working as a construction worker. Katy Perry had called him the "American Dream."
