Japanese video game company Nintendo has official confirmed that the next retro video game set to be made available through its Nintendo Switch Online will be GameBoy Advance's Wario Land 4.

Wario Land 4 was released in 2001 as the fifth instalment in the Wario Land franchise.

The Japanese company has unveiled a trailer for Wario Land 4 on Nintendo Switch Online, providing a sneak peek into what users can expect from the popular game, which was a major competitor to Mario, Game Rant reported.

Players take on the role of Wario, venturing into the depths of a pyramid in search of an elusive treasure. As the game progresses, Wario transforms into a vampire bat and a zombie while battling enemies and completing mini-games.

According to the game’s synopsis, the loot-hungry hero in Wario Land 4 is no longer invincible, unlike in previous platform adventures. However, he can still undergo multiple transformations that aid him on his journey. Some of these forms include Wario Vampire, Wario Bouncing, and Wario Zombie.

The gameplay features multiple levels, each specifically designed to blend exploration and puzzles. Players must complete each stage within a set time frame before the exit doors collapse.

Subscribers of Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack will get to enjoy Wario Land 4 from Friday, February 14, onwards.

Before its release, fans can also look forward to playing Wario Land 3 on Nintendo Switch Online. The game is available on the platform as part of the GameBoy Advance offerings, which have been included in the Expansion Pack.
