Netflix has unveiled the first teaser trailer and release date of the animation film Nimona, on May 18. The film shows a new kind of hero, a shapeshifter, who will fight the monster. Or is he the monster himself? Well, here’s what we know of the film Nimona.

About Nimona

Nimona is directed by Nick Bruno and Troy Quane with a screenplay by Robert L Baird and Lloyd Taylor. It is based on the award-winning graphic novel of the same name by ND Stevenson.

The story of Nimona (Chloë Grace Moretz) shows him as a shapeshifting teenage boy, who is targeted by a knight Ballister Boldheart (Riz Ahmed) who wants to kill Nimona. But there’s a twist when he is accused of a crime, and it is Nimona who may be able to save him.

Nimona is voiced by actor Chloë Grace Moretz (The Peripheral). The other voice cast includes Riz Ahmed (Assassin’s Creed: Gold), Eugene Lee Yang (Classified), Frances Conroy (American Horror Story), Lorraine Toussaint (The Equalizer), RuPaul Charles (RuPaul's Drag Race), Indya Moore (Pose), Beck Bennet (Hamster & Gretel), Julio Torres (The Great North) and Sarah Sherman (Saturday Night Live).

But there is much more to the plot than this, and can be revealed once the movie releases on Netflix.

Gay character in Nimona?

Reports say Nimona will feature same-sex affection, something which had led to controversy at Disney in 2022. Disney had decided to shelve Nimona after the company bought 20th Century Studios and the now-defunct animation division Blue Sky Studios.

So now, Nimona will premiere as a partnership between Netflix and Megan Ellison’s Annapurna Pictures.
