Nick Jonas reveals he was in therapy after 'tragic' performance with Kelsea Ballerini

Singer Nick Jonas has revealed that his performance with Kelsea Ballerini at the 2016 Academy of Country Music Awards had landed him in therapy. He recalled how he went numb and could not deliver his performance on stage, and was subsequently trolled for it. Here’s what happened.

However, things didn’t go as planned on stage.

While speaking on the Armchair Expert with Dax Shepard podcast, Nick Jonas confessed that just moments after he started singing the duet off "fine", his "tragic" off-key guitar solo apparently marred the performance. "A really tragic guitar solo debacle…happened on live TV," said Nick.

Previously, Nick’s wife Priyanka Chopra Jonas had also done a revelatory interview on Armchair Expert with Dax Shepard. Now, Nick appears on the same podcast.

Nick further revealed that he had, in fact, "rehearsed (the performance) a million times". He was "feeling really confident about it" and "not even really thinking" that it’s "going to be problematic".

But after he started off fine, he suddenly "just went completely blank", as he walked towards the country singer. "I hit a wrong note and blacked out", he revealed, "clocked that it was wrong and I couldn’t stop".

Even after he got trolled on social media, Nick took it in his stride and wrote to his fans: "Yes, I screwed up the solo thanks to a huge brain fart. We’re all human and s–t happens sometimes..."

But Jonas knew that it was a bad performance. He said that now he laughs about it but that "it did cause me to go to therapy".

"Until this day and hours after unpacking it, I can’t really figure out exactly what happened, but I was rushed to a car and rushed to a plane right after it. And I looked at my manager and said, ‘I think that was bad.’ I was like in shock. Like it was a really traumatic moment that shaped the pressure I put on myself to be perfect and to always be on," he revealed on the podcast.

Nick Jonas thinks the infamous performance is "the worst moment" for him.

However, Kelsea Ballerini later collaborated with the Jonas Brothers on their 2021 Remember This Tour gigs.
