Denver Broncos linebacker Dre Greenlaw has been handed a one-game suspension by the NFL for verbally threatening a referee, the league confirmed Monday. The suspension stems from Greenlaw’s actions following Denver’s 33-32 home win over the New York Giants on Sunday. With the win over New York, Denver improved to 5-2 and claimed the top spot in the AFC West.

According to an NFL statement, Greenlaw “chased after referee Brad Allen and verbally threatened him as he tried to leave the field.”

Greenlaw is allowed to appeal the ban under the league’s collective bargaining agreement with the NFL Players Association. For now, he will miss Denver’s upcoming home game against the Dallas Cowboys and is eligible to return to the active roster next Monday.

Sunday marked Greenlaw’s season debut after a thigh injury sidelined him for Denver’s first six games. He finished the game with six tackles.

The 28-year-old signed a three-year, $31.5 million deal with the Broncos in March after six seasons with the San Francisco 49ers. He missed most of the 2024 season due to a torn left Achilles tendon sustained in Super Bowl 58 against the Kansas City Chiefs.
