NFL Preseason: Saints fight back late to tie Jaguars; Bears blank Bills 38-0

The New Orleans Saints rallied late to earn a 17-17 tie with the visiting Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday in the second preseason game for both teams.

Rookie quarterback Spencer Rattler sparked the comeback, connecting with Dante Pettis on a 20-yard touchdown pass before running in the two-point conversion with 21 seconds remaining to even the score. Rattler, who took over in the second half after Tyler Shough started, went 18-of-24 for 199 yards with one touchdown and one interception.



Pettis finished with 57 receiving yards, while Mason Tipton led all receivers with 100 yards for the Saints (0-1-1).

For Jacksonville (0-1-1), starter Trevor Lawrence played two series, capping his day with a 7-yard touchdown strike to Parker Washington. The Pro Bowl quarterback was sharp, completing 8 of 10 passes for 76 yards.


Rookie running back Bhayshul Tuten added 35 rushing yards and a touchdown to pace the Jaguars’ ground game.

Chicago Bears thrash Bills 38-0

Top overall draft pick Caleb Williams made an impressive preseason debut for the Bears, leading a touchdown drive on his first series in a 38-0 rout of the visiting Bills on Sunday night.


Williams, playing his first game under new head coach Ben Johnson, completed 6 of 10 passes for 107 yards before exiting after two possessions. His highlight came on a 36-yard strike to Olamide Zaccheaus, capping a 92-yard opening drive.

Backup Tyson Bagent kept the momentum rolling, going 13 of 22 for 196 yards and an 11-yard touchdown pass to Tyler Scott. Bagent also directed scoring drives capped by short rushing touchdowns from Brittain Brown and Ian Wheeler, giving Chicago a commanding 28-0 halftime lead.


Buffalo, now 0-2 in preseason, once again rested reigning NFL MVP Josh Allen along with several starters, including running back James Cook, who signed a contract extension last week after a brief hold-in. Former Bears starter Mitchell Trubisky relieved Mike White at quarterback, combining to complete just 11 of 24 passes for 109 yards as the Bills’ offense sputtered.

Injuries clouded Chicago’s dominant win. Cornerback Terell Smith was carted off with a non-contact knee injury in the second quarter, while defensive end Dominique Robinson and wideout JP Richardson left with ankle issues.

Rookie defensive end Austin Booker and running back Deion Hankins also exited with knee injuries. Buffalo lost defensive back Jordan Hancock to a shoulder injury.
