New Zealand 'suitcase murders' case: Accused murderer to be extradited from South Korea within 30 days

A murderer accused of the "suitcase murders" in New Zealand is being extradited within the next 30 days, with the South Korean Ministry of Justice confirming her travel to New Zealand.

The grizzly suitcase murders, which were committed in Auckland, New Zealand, and put in storage and kept for many years, would soon have a woman suspect will be extradited from South Korea.

Han Dong-hoon, the Minister of Justice in South Korea, has decided that the suspect would be deported to New Zealand. The Seoul High court had recommended her extradition. The South Korean Minister had to make the final decision about her departure. Mr Han has ordered the South Korean Police to submit whatever evidence they have to the New Zealand authorities.

Jacinda Ardern, the Prime Minister of New Zealand, welcomed the decision of the South Korean authorities and agreed that the extradition treaties having their value during such situations.


The suitcase murders created a sensation in New Zealand, and the children found in the suitcases were murdered 3 or 4 years ago. The suitcases were discovered in August 2022 after a family bought them from Safe Store Papatoetoe, a suburb in Auckland.

Two suitcases that carried the two children were stored at Papatoetoe and were sold to a family in an auction along with other goods. The children were Korean, and their father had died of cancer in 2017. The mother, a Korean-born New Zealander, left for South Korea in 2018 and has remained in the country ever since.

The woman is now due to be deported to New Zealand soon.
