The nationwide trend showed that 8.2 million people relocated from their current state to another, marking a 3.8 per cent increase compared to the numbers in 2021, USA Today reported data published by US Census Bureau.
Florida emerged as the most popular destination for New York emigrants, attracting 91,201 individuals. Following closely were neighboring states, with New Jersey witnessing the second-largest influx (75,103), trailed by Connecticut (50,670) and Pennsylvania (44,807).
In contrast, states like Wyoming, Montana, Iowa, Mississippi, and South Dakota experienced fewer than 500 people moving from New York during 2022.
The primary motivations behind Americans' decisions to relocate in 2022 were centered on enhancing their overall quality of life, seeking more affordable living areas, and securing larger homes. A significant portion, nearly a quarter, identified quality of life as the foremost factor influencing their choice to relocate to a different state.
