New York Jets’ Zack Wilson starting against Detroit Lions as Mike White remains benched due to injury

Zack Wilson, the quarterback of the New York Jets, will start against the Detroit Lions in the Sunday game. The news was announced on Friday by the head coach Robert Saleh. Though Mike White has practised and wanted to be involved in the next game, he couldn’t get medical clearance for game contact. The head coach, Saleh, explained that White has “exhausted every measure” to be of his teammates' help to the maximum extent he can. Now it’s done according to “what’s best for the player” so that players can be protected from the player.

During a Week 14 game in which the New York Jets lost to Buffalo Bills, White injured his ribs. Despite taking several hard hits, he returned to the game after leaving.



Before the team’s game against Chicago Bears in Week 12, Wilson was benched for White because of the not-so-good performance against the New England Patriots by the former. Wilson received criticism from his teammates for his poor performance. Though he initially said he didn’t think he failed the defence, he threw for just 77 yards, going down to 9-of-22 in the 10-3 loss.

Later it was reported that Wilson sought apologies from his teammates. And Wilson’s benching was a needed reset for the young QB and not a “nail in his coffin”, explained Saleh via ESPN.

Saleh shared on Wednesday that the backup quarterback position was reassigned to him over veteran Joe Flacco and he was back on the game-day roster.

Only Sunday will tell whether the recent practice performances by Wilson will translate to prime time for the benefit of the Jets.
