In recent weeks, Trump has increased his slim lead in Arizona, passed Harris in North Carolina, and drawn even in Nevada, according to average polls compiled by FiveThirtyEight. Additionally, the former president has narrowed Harris's lead in Wisconsin, Michigan, and Pennsylvania.

Florida Atlantic University political marketing professor Craig Agranoff texted Newsweek, saying that Trump's momentum in recent polls reflects his ability to tap into core voter concerns like the economy and national security, which tend to dominate in uncertain times.

However, Agranoff noted that Harris still could reverse the trend and regain the momentum, making it unlikely that the former president would be able to take advantage of the situation and win on November 5.

Sustaining this momentum until Election Day will require maintaining discipline in his messaging and avoiding controversies that could alienate undecided or moderate voters, stated Agranoff.

Harris, however, still has a chance to catch up, but it will require a robust, issue-based campaign that emphasizes motivating important groups and drawing a stark contrast with Trump on matters like healthcare and economic equality.
