New Orleans, New Iberia and Arabi have been hit as well, and the communities there are active there giving support to people who have been affected. The tornado hit New Orleans around 4:30 PM as people quickly headed home in storm conditions. A tornado formed and damaged a two-mile path and luckily had some height, and mainly roofs were destroyed. The President of St Bernard Parish, Guy McInnis, reported that many buildings on the tornado’s path had been damaged, but luckily no fatalities have been confirmed yet. With the long evening ahead, rescue and search operations would be done mainly by local communities, and neighbours are extending their support to all affected. A clearer picture will come in the morning tomorrow after a thorough assessment.

A severe weather condition evolved as a warning was already in place from coast to coast. Blizzards have been in full swing in the southern states, and tornadoes are a common phenomenon in these regions. Texas to Alabama is affected, and around fifteen active tornadoes have been reported on Wednesday in a single time in the Southeast.

Around 40,000 people have been cut off from the energy grid due to destructions caused by a tornado. Those individuals are still grappling with power lines torn up, and getting them up again will be a challenge for the service provider. Within twenty minutes, everything changed, according to Mitti Hicks of Fox Weather News reporting from New Orleans. The National Weather Service issued tornado warnings for the parishes of Orleans and Jefferson, so people were hopefully on guard. Hicks said the blizzard was so intense that he couldn’t see beyond thirty feet.

Scott Walker, the Councilman for Jefferson Parish, said that the tornado formed in the West Bank and then moved onto New Orleans after crossing the river. Damages have been reported in the Gretna and old Gretna areas. The Winn Dixie store, off the West Bank Expressway, which connects to the Crescent City area, has been significantly damaged the store with the roof collapsing.
