New Jersey: 15-year-old girl from Chester County survives shark attack, recalls ‘scary’ experience

A Chester County teenage girl survived a shark attack over the weekend in New Jersey’s Stone Harbor. Maggie Drozdowski is a reportedly trained dancer turned surfer and she was walking on crutches on Monday after a shark bit off her foot. On Sunday afternoon, a shark attacked the 15-year-old while she was surfing near 110th Street in Stone Harbour.

As per CBS News report, Drozdowski said that she was in shock and she did not even realize what was unfolding until she emerged from the water. However, she added that the incident “scared” her and that “it was scary”. Following the attack, she was left severely bleeding and subsequently a 911 call was made.

Drozdowski and her friend even clicked a picture together while holding their surfboards just before going into the water. In a massive wave, she initially lost her surfboard before the shark grabbed her foot and pulled the teen underwater. In order to fight away the shark, Drozdowski said that she “shook it off” as much as she could to “get it off”.


The entire incident with Drozdowski was unfolding in front of her friend, Sarah O’Donnell who recalled Drozdowski screaming about “something” biting her. Even after the attack, Drozdowski paddled to the shore. There have only been 15 confirmed unprovoked shark attacks in New Jersey, as per the International Shark Attack File statistics. While the 15-year-old survived the attack, she also revealed that she plans on spending the remaining summer on the beach and not on the water.
