New footage shows House Speaker Mike Johnson during Capitol Hill confrontation with Representative Madeleine Dean where Dean called President Trump "unhinged" and "unwell" following Trump's posting of AI-generated videos depicting Democratic congressional leaders Chuck Schumer and Hakeem Jeffries
New footage shows House Speaker Mike Johnson's response during a Capitol Hill confrontation with Democratic Representative Madeleine Dean regarding President Donald Trump's social media posts. The interaction occurred Tuesday, September 30, after Trump posted AI-generated videos of Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer and House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries.

MSNBC's All In with Chris Hayes aired the additional footage Wednesday night. The video shows Dean telling Johnson her assessment of the president's behavior.

"The president is unhinged. He is unwell," Dean told Johnson in the footage.

Earlier footage had shown Dean confronting Johnson about Trump's AI-generated videos posted to Truth Social. The videos depicted Schumer and Jeffries in content Democratic leaders condemned as racist.

Confrontation centers on Trump's AI-generated social media posts

The exchange between Dean and Johnson focused on Trump's posting of AI-generated content featuring Democratic congressional leaders. Trump shared videos depicting Jeffries with a fake mustache and sombrero, which Jeffries characterized as racist and bigoted.

The videos falsely accused Democrats of attempting to provide free health care to undocumented immigrants. One video featured Jeffries, who is Black, portrayed as Mexican with mariachi music playing in the background.

Context of Capitol Hill tensions over presidential social media activity

The confrontation occurred amid broader tensions between congressional leaders and the White House over Trump's social media posts. Vice President JD Vance defended the videos Wednesday, characterizing them as humor and stating Trump was "joking" when posting the content.

Jeffries challenged Trump Tuesday to insult him directly during future meetings rather than through social media posts. The White House responded to Jeffries' remarks by tweeting a clip with the comment "Oh no! Hakeem is BIG MAD!" and laughing emojis.

Trump posted a second AI-generated video of Jeffries Tuesday evening as government shutdown negotiations continued. The additional video featured Jeffries condemning the original content during a television interview while an AI-generated mariachi band with Trump's face on members played music over his words.
