Netflix's 'Chupa' trailer out; Family adventure movie set to premiere in April 2023

A family fantasy-adventure “Chupa”, based on the scary Mexican mythical Chupacabra, is coming to Netflix in April 2023. This Netflix family drama is directed and co-written by Mexican filmmaker Jonás Cuarón.

What is Chupacabra?

It is said that Chupacabra exists in parts of Latin America. The mythical creature is a monster that feasts on the blood of goats. However, the version of Netflix’s Chupa drifts itself from the original legend to a more friendly beast. “We were inspired by many animals but we get different accounts from the different chupacabra findings that were reported during the ’90s. Our aim was to create a slightly adorable creature out of a monster,” Chupa director Jonás Cuarón revealed.

What is the plot of Netflix's 'Chupa'?

The plot of Netflix’s Chupa stick to a reserved 13-year-old Alex (played by Evan Whitten) who moves from Kansas City to Mexico to meet his old grandfather Chava (played by Demián Bichir). On his grandfather's farm, he meets a new mythical friend and both entered into an unexpected adventure. "The plot has a scary element, but it also has so much curiosity about something mystical being around us," the filmmaker Jonás Cuarón said.

When the Chupa will release?

Netflix confirmed that Chupa will be released exclusively on April 7th, 2023.

Evan Whitten portrays the lead role of the young boy Alex. Demián Bichir featured as Alex’s grandfather Chava and Christian Slater played the role of Richard Quinn, the scientist hunting Chupa, including Nickolas Verdugo and Ashley Ciarra.
