Netflix Portugal has announced the renewal of "Turn of the Tide" (known as "Rabo de Peixe" for Portuguese speakers) for a second season. The series, loosely inspired by a true story, premiered globally on Netflix in May 2023, captivating audiences with its gripping narrative. Created by Augusto Fraga, the show centers around Eduardo, a man who seizes an opportunity to make a fortune when a boat filled with drugs washes up on his island. The ensemble cast includes actors, like José Condessa, Helena Caldeira, André Leitão, Maria João Bastos, Rodrigo Tomás, Albano Jerónimo and Afonso Pimentel.

The announcement of the show's renewal comes less than a month after its debut, indicating Netflix's confidence in its success. Although many shows receive early renewal orders, this news has only just been made public. Augusto Fraga expressed his gratitude and excitement, assuring fans that the second season will deliver an exhilarating and unexpected continuation of Eduardo's story. He also emphasized his pride in the recognition the show has garnered within Portugal, as well as its impact beyond the country's borders, bringing Portuguese talent to screens worldwide.

In terms of viewership, ‘Turn of the Tide’ has achieved considerable success. While it primarily resonates with local audiences, the show has also gained traction in other countries. It has spent two weeks in Netflix's global top 10 rankings, accumulating a total of 19.89 million hours viewed thus far. However, it is expected to drop out of the rankings by June 18.

FlixPatrol, a platform tracking the daily top 10 movies and series in 89 countries, reveals that the show has performed exceptionally well in Portugal, where it has remained in the top rankings for 19 consecutive days. It has also found success in other European territories, including Spain and Italy. Although it has entered the top 10 in Latin American countries such as Brazil, it has not exceeded expectations in those regions.

‘Turn of the Tide’ joins a list of five major renewals announced this week on Netflix. Other notable series receiving renewals include "Physical: 100," "XO, Kitty," "Blood & Water," and "Fake Profile." This demonstrates the streaming platform's commitment to investing in diverse and engaging content for its subscribers.
