After a hugely successful debut on the streaming platform, Netflix has approved Squid Game: The Challenge for a second season.

In just two weeks since its November 22 premiere, the reality series on Netflix has risen to the top of the English TV list and the Top 10 lists in 93 different countries.

It is based on the well-liked K-drama Squid Game on Netflix, which centers on a group of people who enroll in a life-or-death game show where they have to battle to survive and win the ₩4.56 million reward as they are in such dire financial circumstances.

In Squid Game: The Challenge, a reality TV show, 456 real people compete to try and win $4.56 million by playing games based on the original series. Unlike in the K-drama, however, they are not required to fight to the death.

On December 7, Squid Game: The Challenge's first season will come to an end with a grand finale in which the three remaining players will play one more game against one another before the winner is declared.

The decision to greenlight season two of Squid Game: The Challenge, the most ambitious unscripted show to premiere on Netflix, was made without hesitation, according to Brandon Riegg, Vice President of Nonfiction Series at Netflix, who made the announcement ahead of the premiere.

He said, “We can't wait to carry on the Squid Game franchise with the help of our Korean team, Studio Lambert producers, and The Garden for this incredible competition series."

In Season 2 of the show, 456 real-life participants will compete in the games with the hope of winning a fortune that could change their lives. Those who would like to apply to be on the show can do so at SquidGameCasting.com.

In addition to the upcoming season of the reality show, Netflix has unveiled plans to broaden the universe with Squid Game: The Trials, a live fan experience that will launch in Los Angeles on December 6 and allow viewers to participate in six immersive games that are based on the original series. There are also plans to make a video game.

Naturally, a second season of Squid Game is presently in development, with actors like Kang Ha-Neul and Choi Seung-Hyun (also known as K-pop icon T.O.P) joining the cast and director Hwang Dong-hyuk returning to helm the show.
