'The Stranger' is expected to premiere globally on Netflix in October this year. The storyline of the suspenseful crime thriller revolves around the dark bond shared by two strangers, who come together on a journey and start a conversation leading to an uneasy friendship. One of the strangers is Henry Teague, a suspect in an unsolved missing person's investigation, played by Sean Harris while stranger number 2 is an undercover cop on his trail played by the actor Joel Edgerton. It is a tightly written thriller and directed by Thomas M. Wright.
What is the release dates for 'The Stranger?'
'The Stranger' is all set to hit the cinemas in Australia on October 6, while it will be premiered worldwide on Netflix on October 19. The thriller released by Netflix looks intriguing, and there is a lot of hype around the suspense crime film already.
The Stranger features a small circle of undercover operatives pretending to be criminals and working for a strong criminal network. The cops set out on an undercover operation to hunt a killer, who has managed to escape conviction for eight years.
Is the storyline inspired by a true event?
The story is based on the most significant missing person case in the history of Australia, involving an undercover operation. It was inspired by the kidnapping and murder of a thirteen-year-old Australian boy Daniel Morcombe. Daniel was kidnapped from a bus stop in December 2003 and later murdered by his pedophile kidnapper. The killer, Brett Peter Cowan, was caught and convicted after an eight-year-long investigation involving an undercover operation.
Daniel's family unhappy with the film
Daniel's family is not happy with the making of the film and has spoken against it. The parents argued that the film gave notoriety to their son's murderer. They even accused the makers of ignoring the family's pain and choosing to make a profit from their 13-year-old boy's death.

Actor and writer Thomas Wright made his directorial debut in 2018 with "Acute Misfortune." Thomas, who has written and directed 'The Stranger', said he wanted to make a psychological crime thriller that would take the viewers to a hidden place. He wanted to give the audience an immersive cinematic experience by making a film that was authentic and realistic in detail.
How did Thomas defend 'The Stranger?'
Thomas said that his film's characters portrayed and focused on the people, who didn't know the victim but still devoted many years of their lives to solving the case and compromised their mental and physical health. He said that the reason behind the making of the film is 'violence', but the film's subject is defined purely by empathy. The story is about the connections between people.
The word 'Stranger' used in the title could represent the perpetrator of the crime, the victim, the people affected by their loss, or the central character in the film, whose name never comes up; or it could be the nameless individuals, who manage to resolve the mystery film at the end.
He felt proud that an independent Australian movie had premiered in the Official Selection at Cannes, and now it will be viewed by the largest audience anywhere as a Netflix movie.
