The global hit series comes to an end as Seong Gi-hun prepares to confront the deadly game’s creators in an emotional final chapter
The trailer reveals a more emotional and reflective tone compared to previous teasers. It opens with a voiceover from Jang Geum-ja, also known as Player 149, played by actress Kang Ae-shim. She speaks directly to the main character, Seong Gi-hun, known as Player 456 (played by Lee Jung-jae).
“Are you blaming yourself for everything that happened? No matter how you look at it, life is just unfair,” she says.
“Bad people do bad things, but they blame others and go on to live in peace. Good people, on the other hand, beat themselves up over the smallest things.”
These lines have received strong reactions from fans online, with many calling the monologue relatable and powerful. While offering limited insight, the trailer serves just enough to satisfy fans and at the same time leaves them wanting more.
The trailer ends with two key lines. Geum-ja says,
“I still believe that you came here to save us all,” followed by Gi-hun stating, “I’m trying to put an end to it.”
The legacy of Squid Game
Squid Game, first released in September 2021, became Netflix’s most-watched series of all time, with viewers from over 90 countries. It's story about people risking their lives in deadly games for a cash prize sparked global discussions and inspired adaptations, including a reality competition spin-off.
Netflix previously confirmed that Season 3 will be the final installment of the series. While the trailer does not reveal major plot points, it suggests that Gi-hun will return to confront those behind the deadly competition.
Season 3 will continue the storyline following the events of Season 2, which ended with Gi-hun turning away from a flight to the U.S. to pursue those running the games.
