Netflix is set to release an animated feature film adaptation of Roald Dahl's 'The Twits' in 2025. Phil Johnston, known for his work on 'Zootopia' and 'Wreck-It Ralph,' co-wrote the screenplay with Meg Favreau. This marks the first-ever screen adaptation of Dahl's book, a classic that has been translated into 41 languages and sold 16 million copies globally.

The animation for the film is being produced by Jellyfish Pictures, based in Brixton, known for their work on 'The Boss Baby' and 'The Bad Guys.' The story revolves around Mr. and Mrs. Twit, two unpleasant individuals who own a repugnant amusement park named Twitlandia. As they rise to power in their town, a group of courageous orphans and a family of magical animals must outsmart the Twits to save the city.

The film promises to be a humorous and chaotic experience, filled with the Twits' signature pranks like the Wormy Spaghetti and the Dreaded Shrinks. It also carries a message about the ongoing struggle between cruelty and empathy.

Phil Johnston, the filmmaker behind the project, expressed his fascination with morally flawed characters like the Twits. He stated that 'The Twits' was his favorite childhood book and emphasized the importance of not allowing characters like them, driven by anger and vengeance, to triumph in the real world.

Katie Shanahan and Todd Demong are co-directing the film, with Johnston and Maggie Malone as producers and Daisy West as co-producer. 'The Twits' is Netflix's first animated release among a series of upcoming Roald Dahl adaptations, including Wes Anderson's 'The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar' and an animated version of 'Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.'
