Netflix and Korean Academy of Film Arts announce Content Creator Program; Here’s all you need to know about it

Streaming giant Netflix has announced a new sponsorship with the Korean Academy of Film Arts. Read on to know more.

K-pop and K-dramas are so popular worldwide, and especially on streaming platforms, and more and more content is being created and commissioned. In keeping with the demand for new content and creativity, streaming giant Netflix has announced a new sponsorship with the Korean Academy of Film Arts (KAFA).


The new association aims at supporting new talent among content creators. Know more about it.



Netflix and KAFA deal


Netflix has sponsored a program with KAFA through the Netflix Fund for Creative Equity. The special fund was formed in 2021 and has resulted in Netflix investing in talent in the region, with over 150 Asia-Pacific filmmakers being supported.

Whatsonnetflix reports that Park Ki-yong, Chairperson, Korean Film Council (KOFIC), has said in a statement about the sponsorship:

“We appreciate Netflix’s sponsorship for the continuous development of K-Content. Through this agreement, programs that help to develop the global film and video industry by nurturing the next generation of talent will be further accelerated.”

Park Ki-yong is confident that the ‘next Bong Joon-ho’ could come out of KAFA. The association will also “promote cooperation between Korea and the United States in the field of content”, he added.

Don Kang, Vice President - Content, Netflix Korea, said in a statement, “Supporting and nurturing the next generation of filmmaking talent in Korea is extremely important to the entire industry and Netflix is honored to be supporting the Korean Academy of Film Arts program this year.”

He added that the company’s “local investments have created employment for thousands in Korea” and and that Netflix Korea is “committed to developing up-and-coming Korean talent both behind and in front of the camera”.

“We will continue to explore ways to partner with the industry in Korea to develop growth opportunities for the country’s creative community,” he said.

The KOFIC established the KAFA in 1984 as a premier film institute of South Korea.
