US President-elect Donald Trump
Russian President Vladimir Putin has recently officially revised Russia's nuclear doctrine while significantly lowering the threshold for the use of nuclear weapons, reported Express U.S. This sudden and dangerous change comes as a direct response to US President Joe Biden's authorization for Ukraine to use US made long range ATACMS missiles against targets in Russia.

According to Express U.S., the new doctrine actually states that any conventional attack on Russia by a non-nuclear country, if supported by a nuclear state, will be perceived as a ‘joint attack’ on Russia, which will potentially justify a nuclear response.

Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov emphasized on the fact that these updates were extremely necessary to align with the current geopolitical tensions while reflecting Moscow's readiness to use nuclear capabilities to deter Western support for Ukraine, asserted Express U.S. It should be also noted that the revised doctrine broadens the scenarios under which nuclear weapons could be deployed which include responses to significant aerial attacks involving missiles and drones.

Express U.S. also noted that this marks a departure from previous language that limited nuclear use to cases where ballistic missile threats were confirmed. The revisions coincide with the 1,000th day of the ongoing conflict in Ukraine while also highlighting Russia's escalating military posturing amid increasing Western involvement in the war.
