The helicopter went down around 6:57 p.m. near 9151 N. Mason Avenue in the San Fernando Valley, where firefighters found the aircraft and nearby vehicles engulfed in flames. Four people were assessed at the scene, with three pronounced dead and one transported to a local hospital in unknown condition, LAFD said.
The identities of those killed have not been released, and officials have not yet determined what caused the helicopter to crash. The National Transportation Safety Board and Federal Aviation Administration are expected to investigate the incident.

The helicopter came down between two commercial buildings, according to preliminary reports. The crash sparked a fire that also damaged four automobiles and two storage containers, LAFD said.

The aircraft was covering a separate crash involving an SUV and a Metro bus in Chatsworth when it went down. According to The Mirror, the earlier collision was reported shortly after 5 p.m. near Nordhoff Street and De Soto Avenue.
Several news helicopters were reportedly operating in the area as crews covered the collision. NBC Los Angeles' live coverage showed the helicopter descending toward the ground before the feed abruptly ended.
The circumstances surrounding the crash remain under investigation. LAFD said the NTSB and FAA would be responsible for investigating the aircraft accident.
