Philadelphia 76ers forward Paul George underwent arthroscopic surgery on his left knee Monday following an injury during a recent workout, the team announced. The procedure, performed in New York, was deemed successful, and the 35-year-old will begin a rehabilitation program with plans to be re-evaluated ahead of training camp in late September.

George, a nine-time NBA All-Star, signed a four-year, $212 million deal with the Sixers last July after previous stints with Indiana, Oklahoma City, and the Los Angeles Clippers. His arrival was seen as a major piece in Philadelphia’s championship aspirations alongside Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey. However, those hopes were quickly derailed.

The Sixers struggled throughout the 2024–25 season, finishing with a disappointing 24-58 record - their worst since 2015–16 - and missing the playoffs entirely.

George appeared in just 41 games due to a series of injuries, including a bone bruise and adductor issues, before being shut down for the season in mid-March. He averaged 16.2 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 4.3 assists per game.

Injuries also sidelined Embiid for much of the year, limiting him to only 19 games. As a result, the highly anticipated trio of Embiid, George, and Maxey took the court together just 15 times.

Despite the setbacks, George remains one of the NBA’s most experienced two-way players. Across 15 seasons, he has averaged 20.6 points, 6.3 rebounds, 3.7 assists, and 1.7 steals per game. His recovery and availability will be crucial for the Sixers as they look to regroup and contend in the upcoming season.
