National Film Registry: 'Iron Man', 'When Harry Met Sally' and several make their way
The National Film Registry's yearly selection of the top 25 films has been released by the Library of Congress.

The selection, which is thought to be among America's most influential movies, includes films like Carrie, Super Fly, The Little Mermaid, Hairspray, House Party, "Iron Man" and "When Harry Met Sally", as well as more recent classics like Super Fly, Carrie, Hairspray, The Little Mermaid, made José Ferrer the first actor to win the Best Actor Oscar.
The most recent group comprises notable films in important genres and various American filmmakers. They were chosen for their cultural, historical, or aesthetic significance to preserve the nation's film heritage.
At least 15 movies feature directors or co-directors identifying as women, people of colour, or LGBTQ+. The choices boost the Registry's total number of films to 850.

Iron Man, a 2008 film directed by Jon Favreau, established Marvel Studios as a regular fixture in American popular culture. Kevin Feige, the Marvel President, said that Iron Man was the studio's first independently produced movie. For the studio, it was a make-or-break project because it was the first movie over which they had complete creative control. Iron Man's inclusion in the Film Registry indicates that it has endured and continues to have significance for viewers worldwide almost 15 years after its initial release.
