Nashville school shooting: Police confiscate more firearms from suspect’s home

An ex-student opened fire at a school in Nashville, Tennessee, in the US, killing three children and three adults.

The Covenant School, a private Christian school with pupils ranging in age from three to eleven, was the scene of the attack.

The three dead students were all nine years old.


According to police, the suspect entered the school through a door and opened fire. Officers found more weapons during a search of their home.

William Kinney, Evelyn Dieckhaus, and Hallie Scruggs were the three children killed.

The adult victims were identified as Cynthia Peak, 61, Mike Hill, 61, and Katherine Koonce, 60.

Audrey Hale, 28, has been named as the suspect, according to police.

Hale's gender identification has caused some uncertainty since the authorities first described the attacker as a woman before subsequently stating that Hale identified as transgender.

Police fired and killed the gunman, who had three weapons on him, including a semi-automatic rifle.

They had created a detailed map of the school with all of the entrances and left behind a manifesto. Police are now reviewing those papers.

Officers said they think "resentment" may have been a motive in the shooting of Hale, who had no prior criminal history and was a former student at the school.



The initial report of a shooting was made to the police on Monday at 10:13 local time (15:13 GMT).

Hale is shown in a subsequent video released by Nashville police strolling through a room with the title "Children's Ministry" after entering the school by breaking the glass panes on the front doors with a revolver.

Glass fragments wounded one police officer. At 10:27, police barged inside and fatally shot the man.

Police stated that after searching a nearby parked automobile, they became "firmly convinced" that Hale had previously attended the institution.


During a check of a neighbouring house reported as the shooter's residence, police talked with the attacker's father.

A manifesto and "a blueprint of how all of this was going to play out," including entrance and departure points at the school building, were discovered there, according to Nashville Police Chief John Drake.

The school issued a statement that read, "Our community is saddened” adding that they have suffered a significant loss and are still in shock after the horror that destroyed our church and school. The shooting was described as "a family's worst nightmare" by US President Joe Biden.
