NASA’s new Joint Polar Satellite: Here’s all about it
NASA’s The Joint Polar Satellite System-2 (JPSS-2) will interconnect with other satellites in a polar orbit. It will also track extreme weather situations across the globe.

When will JPSS-2 launch?
JPSS-2 will launch in the early hours of November 10 at 4:25 am ET from Vandenberg Space Force Base, California.
What were the predecessors of JPSS-2?
The predecessors of JPSS-2 include Suomi NPP and NOAA-20. The earlier two satellites will see JPSS-2 joining them in a polar orbit. This unification will cover entire earth twice each day.How the JPSS-2 satellite works?
The JPSS-2 will be measuring and keeping a watch on the weather through its four instruments which include its ‘eyes’ – VIIRS or Visible Infrared Imaging Radiometer Suite. This system captures infrared images and visible light with a spatial resolution of a quarter mile that aids researchers in viewing factors like cloud domes termed as overshooting tops– an indicator of the severity of a thunderstorm.ATMS or Advanced Technology Microwave Sounder is the other instrument that can sneak through clouds to view the possible intensity of cyclone. The Cross-track Infrared Sounder, or the CrIS, creates a 3D view of atmosphere, while the Ozone Mapping and Profiler Suite, or the OMPS, reads ozone in the atmosphere.
The coming together of the data will aid in weather forecasting by monitoring Pacific and Atlantic oceans.
