Why did NASA postpone the ISS spacewalk?
NASA announced Wednesday that it had postponed a spacewalk scheduled for Thursday after an unnamed astronaut experienced a medical issue aboard the International Space Station. The spacewalk was expected to begin around 8 a.m. EST and last approximately 6.5 hours, as per a report by The Express US.
"The agency is monitoring a medical concern with a crew member that arose Wednesday afternoon aboard the orbital complex,” NASA officials said in an email Wednesday.
Because of the situation, the agency decided it was not appropriate to proceed with extravehicular activity while medical assessments were underway, as per a report by The Express US.

What did NASA say about the astronaut’s condition?
NASA emphasized that the astronaut’s condition is stable but declined to share further details.
"Due to medical privacy, it is not appropriate for NASA to share more details about the crew member. The situation is stable. NASA will share additional details, including a new date for the upcoming spacewalk, later," the agency said.
After the initial announcement raised concerns, NASA issued a follow-up statement aimed at easing fears while confirming that contingency plans were being reviewed.
"These are the situations NASA and our partners train for and prepare to execute safely. We will provide further updates within the next 24 hours."

Who is currently aboard the ISS?
Crew-11, the latest mission to the ISS, is led by SpaceX and includes NASA astronauts Zena Cardman and Michael Fincke, Japanese astronaut Kimiya Yui, and Russian cosmonaut Oleg Platonov of Roscosmos. The crew arrived at the station on Aug. 2, 2025, and is scheduled to remain for six months, through Feb. 2, 2026.
Though NASA has not identified the astronaut affected, reports indicate Cardman and Fincke were slated to perform the postponed spacewalk.
Besides Crew-11, three other astronauts are currently aboard the ISS: NASA’s Christopher Williams and Roscosmos cosmonauts Sergey Kud-Sverchkov and Sergei Mikayev, who arrived via a Soyuz spacecraft on Nov. 27, as per a report by The Express US.
NASA has said further updates on the medical situation and mission timeline are expected within the next 24 hours.
