Nancy Guthrie's latest update: Possible pinky ring spotted in security footage as DNA search continues
More than two weeks after Nancy Guthrie vanished from her Tucson home, investigators say a subtle detail in security footage could offer a new lead. Authorities are now examining whether the suspected kidnapper may have been wearing a pinky ring beneath a glove, a detail that has captured renewed attention in the ongoing search.

The development comes as officials continue to process DNA evidence and field emotional public appeals from the missing 84-year-old’s family.

Could a pinky ring be the break investigators need?

Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos told NBC News that law enforcement is reviewing images from doorbell camera footage that appear to show the suspect tampering with Nancy Guthrie’s Ring camera.

“I look at the same photo you look at [of the person seemingly tampering with Guthrie’s Ring camera], and I get it,” Nanos said. “I see it.

Referring to what could be a ring visible under the glove, he added, “I’m going to give that to my team. They’ll look at that. They’ll analyze it and we’ll see. Maybe it is [a ring].”

Investigators have not confirmed the detail, but the possibility is being carefully examined as part of the broader investigation, as per a report by Page Six.

What happened with the DNA evidence?

The potential clue surfaced as authorities faced a setback involving DNA analysis. A glove matching the one worn by the suspect was found about two miles from Nancy’s residence. The item was initially tested in Florida and later retested in Arizona.

In both cases, the DNA did not match any profiles in the FBI’s Combined DNA Index System (CODIS) database.

Sheriff Nanos shared the update on X, explaining that “the DNA found at the property is being analyzed & further testing needs to be done as part of the investigation.”

He also revealed that the DNA collected does not belong to anyone “close” to Nancy. Family members — including Savannah Guthrie and her siblings Annie Guthrie and Camron Guthrie — have been cleared. Before that, officials were “actively looking at everyone," as per a report by Page Six.

Was Nancy Guthrie targeted?

In an interview with the Today show, Nanos suggested the disappearance may not have been random.

“I think this was an individual who had a target, for whatever reason, and he has made it tough, but I’ve got some pretty tough investigators too,” he said.

Earlier in the investigation, however, he declined to definitively classify the case, stating, “We don't know. We're going to assume both sides of that. We'll look at both sides of that."

Authorities also noted that DNA found at Nancy’s property could potentially belong to the suspect, though further analysis is ongoing, as quoted in a report by Newsweek.

Family’s emotional plea amid growing concern

As investigators continue their work, Nancy’s children have made heartfelt appeals on social media. In a recent Instagram video, Savannah, a Daytime Emmy winner and Today show anchor, addressed the alleged captor directly.

“It is never too late to do the right thing. … We believe in the essential goodness of every human being,” she said.

Friends of Savannah have expressed concern after watching the “profoundly disturbing” video. One friend shared, “She looks devastated. She looks like she’s struggling. She can’t be doing well.”

The emotional toll has been evident as the search stretches on.

With no matches in the CODIS database and the investigation still unfolding, authorities are scrutinizing every possible detail, including what may be a pinky ring caught on camera. As forensic testing continues and detectives explore whether Nancy Guthrie was specifically targeted, her family remains hopeful that answers will come soon.
