The search for Nancy Guthrie has entered its third week, and investigators are now sharing new details with the public. As law enforcement activity intensified near her Arizona home, the FBI released a description of a suspect and increased the reward in the case.

Authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward as the investigation stretches into its 13th day. With multiple agencies involved, the case continues to develop across Tucson and the Catalina Foothills area.

What did the FBI reveal about the suspect?


The FBI described the suspect in Nancy Guthrie’s disappearance as approximately 5’9” to 5’10” tall with an average build. In doorbell camera footage, the individual was seen wearing a black, 25-liter “Ozark Trail Hiker Pack” backpack.

Investigators have raised the reward to $100,000 for “information leading to the location of Nancy Guthrie and/or the arrest and conviction of anyone involved in her disappearance.”

The bureau also conducted an “extensive search” Wednesday along several roadways in the Catalina Foothills area north of Tucson as part of the ongoing investigation, as per a report by CNN and Fox News.

What happened during the major police operation near her home?

Late Friday, more than a dozen law enforcement vehicles, including SWAT and forensic teams, were seen at a residence about two miles from Guthrie’s home. Roads were shut down and reopened roughly four hours later.

At the same time, authorities investigated a gray or silver Range Rover in a Tucson restaurant parking lot. The vehicle was towed after being examined for several hours. Officers covered the license plate, removed items for photographs and at one point held up a sheet to block the view into the trunk.

The driver was detained for questioning and taken from the scene. It remains unclear whether that person is still in custody. At least three people were detained Friday evening, but no suspects have been publicly identified.

The Pima County Sheriff’s Department posted: “Law enforcement activity is underway at a residence near E Orange Grove Rd & N First Ave related to the Guthrie case,” adding, “Because this is a joint investigation, at the request of the FBI — no additional information is currently available.”

Authorities have not confirmed who was involved in the operation or what prompted it, as per a report by Fox News.

What evidence has investigators found so far?


Officials say DNA recovered at Guthrie’s property does not belong to her or those close to her. Several gloves have also been collected during the investigation, with the furthest discovered about 10 miles from her home.

A local law enforcement source said Friday that officials have not identified her location or confirmed the identity of her abductor, as per a report by CNN.

Meanwhile, TMZ founder Harvey Levin told Fox News that his organization received another letter from someone claiming to know who Nancy Guthrie’s alleged kidnapper is, with the emailer writing, “I am not being taken seriously.”

The Pima County Sheriff’s Department Forensic Team was seen searching brush near a road close to Guthrie’s home early Thursday morning. The investigation remains ongoing, as per a report by CNN.
