The search for 84-year-old Nancy Guthrie, mother of NBC journalist and ‘TODAY’ show host Savannah Guthrie, is still going on seven months after she vanished from her Tucson, Arizona home. However, Savannah seemed to talk about her missing mother in the past tense during Thursday's episode (September 10, 2026) of the ‘TODAY’ show.

"My mother’s family w-, my mother was Irish, her grandmother," the NBC host said. "They were from Galway." As she finished her sentence, the other journalists went quiet for a moment, following an excited announcement that the team would be filming a live episode in County Kerry, Ireland.

During the Today show segment, Savannah sat between Al Roker and Craig Melvin alongside the rest of their morning crew. However, a source told The New York Post that Savannah did not use the past tense as a way to acknowledge her mother’s death.

Savannah previously expressed fear that Nancy might be dead after her 84-year-old mother was kidnapped from her Arizona home in February, 2026. The Pima County Sheriff’s Office called the investigation "active and ongoing" and told The Post that it is working with the FBI on the case.

"DNA and video analyses remain ongoing, supported by laboratories nationwide. Advances in technology are aiding investigative efforts, and tips continue to be received and reviewed," the department said in a statement Thursday. Nancy Guthrie disappeared from her home in the early morning hours of February 1, 2026. According to authorities at the Pima County Sheriff's Office and the FBI, she was kidnapped and taken away "against her will".

During the joint investigation, blood matching Nancy Guthrie’s DNA was found inside the house, and doorbell camera footage showed a masked, armed person on her porch the morning she vanished. A few days after the intense search began, the Guthrie family offered a $1 million reward for information leading to Nancy’s "miracle" return.
